Book Review - ‘Little Girl Blue’.
Author: Rebecca Griffiths
Key points:
This is another ‘strong read’ from ‘Rebecca Griffiths’ - and: fans who dare to delve into this re-emerged
‘gritty’ complex ‘noir’ storyline, as it gathers momentum, will not be disappointed.
The plot:
More often than not, the very makings of a psychological thriller can be attributed to the individual narratives of each character - and, this story doesn’t disappoint as each character pathway expands into an eventual conclusion, very different to that expected.
The characters:
Set in Wales: the story begins with a psychological profile of a man, who when a mere boy, displayed a personality that eventually bordered on psychotic (when unmedicated) - this: coupled with the manifestation of an ‘altered reality’ (whilst maintaining a lonely existence and therapeutic connection) develops a unique hold over his acceptance (and connections) within society.
Angela, the female lead, presents a very different contrast as a woman striving to be heard, understood, accepted and respected - in a world where she is fighting her own battles to gain equality alongside the recognition (and whereabouts) of her friend.
What I liked best:
The great thing about ‘fiction’ is that it doesn’t have to be believable. Yet, when reading through the intricacies of a complex storyline, based on a series of characters who connect (despite their efforts to maintain their own levels of equilibrium) - because of who they are and where they’re from: this jolts our minds into a somewhat ‘merged’ level of ‘reality’.
What surprised me:
The complexity and momentum of Angela’s integrated realisation (presents a surprising aspect) of her own levels of ‘cause and effect’ - namely, ‘What if?’
Essentially:
Those who dare to delve into this re-emerged ‘gritty’ complex ‘noir’ storyline, as it gathers momentum, may discover that the outcome is not as expected …
